Runtime Labs is currently an unincorporated business operating in the United Kingdom. It is not currently a limited company.

A business correspondence address will be added following incorporation.

These details will be updated if the business is incorporated or its legal status changes.

02

About these terms

These terms govern access to and use of runtime-labs.org, including its pages, articles, graphics, downloads and other publicly available content.

By continuing to use the website, you agree to comply with these terms. If you do not agree, you should stop using the website.

These are website Terms of Use only. They do not govern:

  • quotations or proposals;
  • cybersecurity assessments or testing;
  • systems installation, maintenance or support;
  • emergency call-out services;
  • consultancy or development work;
  • managed services;
  • sales of equipment or software; or
  • any other paid engagement.

Any such work will be governed by a separate written quotation, statement of work, service agreement or other applicable terms.

03

No contract is formed through the website

Website content describing services, availability, capabilities, response times or previous work is general information and is not a binding offer.

Contacting Runtime Labs does not, by itself:

  • create a client, supplier, advisory or confidential relationship;
  • require Runtime Labs to accept an engagement;
  • guarantee availability or a response time;
  • authorise any cybersecurity testing or access; or
  • create a contract.

A contract for services will arise only when the applicable scope, price and terms have been agreed through an authorised written quotation, service agreement or other clear written confirmation.

04

Emergency enquiries

The website and general email address must not be relied upon as an emergency service or as a continuously monitored communication channel.

Any availability for emergency call-outs is subject to direct confirmation. Publishing a telephone number or describing emergency availability does not guarantee that Runtime Labs will be available, respond within a particular time, or accept an engagement.

If there is an immediate danger to life, property or public safety, contact the appropriate emergency services.

05

Information provided on the website

Website content is provided for general informational and educational purposes.

Technology, cybersecurity threats, software, laws, standards and recommended practices can change quickly. Although we aim to keep information useful and accurate, we do not promise that every page will always be:

  • complete;
  • current;
  • error-free;
  • suitable for a particular system or situation; or
  • available without interruption.

You should assess information in the context of your own circumstances and obtain appropriate professional advice before making important technical, security, legal, financial or business decisions.

Nothing on the website constitutes legal, financial, regulatory or insurance advice.

Cybersecurity information cannot guarantee that a system will be secure or remain free from compromise.

06

Authorised and lawful security work

Any cybersecurity techniques, examples, research or tools described on the website are intended only for lawful, defensive, educational or properly authorised research purposes.

Website content does not give you permission to access, scan, test, interfere with or obtain data from any system.

You must obtain clear authorisation from the system owner before carrying out security testing. Where third-party infrastructure, hosting, cloud services or software is involved, you are responsible for confirming that the proposed testing is also permitted by the relevant provider.

You must define and comply with an appropriate scope, testing window, method and reporting process.

Runtime Labs is not responsible for unlawful, unauthorised or harmful activity carried out using information obtained from the website.

07

Acceptable use

You may use the website only for lawful purposes.

You must not:

  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, its server, the self-hosted origin or any connected system;
  • probe, scan or test the website or its infrastructure without our prior written permission;
  • bypass or attempt to bypass authentication, rate limits, Cloudflare protections or other security controls;
  • introduce malware, ransomware, spyware, viruses, malicious code or harmful data;
  • carry out a denial-of-service or distributed denial-of-service attack;
  • deliberately place an excessive or unreasonable load on the website;
  • scrape or collect content using automated methods in a way that disrupts the website or circumvents access controls;
  • collect or harvest contact details for spam, unsolicited marketing, fraud or harassment;
  • impersonate Runtime Labs or falsely suggest an association, approval or endorsement;
  • use the website to infringe intellectual-property, privacy or other legal rights;
  • use website content to facilitate unauthorised access, fraud, surveillance or other unlawful conduct; or
  • interfere with another person’s use of the website.

Reasonable access by ordinary search-engine crawlers and archival services is permitted unless restricted by the website’s technical controls.

08

Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the website and its original content—including text, branding, graphics, photographs, diagrams and page designs—are owned by or licensed to Runtime Labs and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

You may:

  • view the website through an ordinary web browser;
  • print or save a reasonable number of pages for personal reference; and
  • share links to publicly available pages.

Unless permitted by law or an applicable licence, you must not:

  • reproduce a substantial part of the website;
  • republish website content as your own;
  • sell, sublicense or commercially exploit the content;
  • remove copyright, trade mark or attribution notices;
  • use Runtime Labs branding in a way that suggests endorsement; or
  • copy the website’s design, branding or content for a competing service.

Short quotations may be used where legally permitted, provided they are accurate, attributed to Runtime Labs and accompanied by a link to the relevant page.

Content identified as open source, Creative Commons or subject to another licence is governed by that licence. Third-party material remains the property of its respective owner.

To request permission, email marcus@runtime-labs.org.

Images and AI-assisted content

Images and other visual content on the website may include:

  • original photography or artwork;
  • images licensed from stock-media providers;
  • content created using generative artificial intelligence; and
  • photographs or artwork modified using AI-assisted editing tools.

Unless expressly identified as documentary material, images are used for illustrative purposes. They may not depict actual Runtime Labs personnel, clients, premises, equipment, incidents or completed projects. The appearance of a person, organisation, product or location in an image does not imply employment, engagement, endorsement or association with Runtime Labs.

Stock images remain subject to the rights of their photographers, creators, agencies and licensors. Runtime Labs uses such material under the applicable licence. Access to the website does not grant visitors a separate right to extract, download, reproduce, redistribute or reuse those images.

For AI-generated or AI-assisted material, Runtime Labs claims only those rights available under applicable law and the terms of the relevant AI service. Human-created selection, arrangement, editing, text, branding and page design remain protected where applicable. Runtime Labs does not represent that entirely AI-generated material attracts copyright protection in every jurisdiction.

Where an image has been materially generated or altered in a way that could reasonably be mistaken for a real person, event, location, product, system or completed project, Runtime Labs will identify it as AI-generated, AI-assisted or illustrative where appropriate.

09

Downloads, code and technical materials

Any software, scripts, configuration examples, templates or other downloadable materials may be subject to additional licence terms displayed with them. Those specific licence terms take priority over this section where they conflict.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, technical examples are illustrative and must be reviewed, tested and adapted before use in a live environment.

You are responsible for:

  • checking that a download is appropriate for your system;
  • reviewing code and configuration before execution;
  • maintaining appropriate backups;
  • testing changes in a safe environment;
  • complying with licences and applicable laws; and
  • obtaining all necessary permissions.

Do not run unfamiliar commands, scripts or tools on important systems without understanding their effect.

10

Linking to the website

You may link to a publicly accessible page provided that the link:

  • is lawful and accurate;
  • does not damage or exploit our reputation;
  • does not falsely imply endorsement, partnership or approval; and
  • does not present our content as belonging to someone else.

You must not frame the website within another website or reproduce substantial parts of it without permission.

We may ask you to remove a link where we reasonably believe it is misleading, unlawful or harmful.

11

Third-party websites and services

The website may link to external websites, software, repositories, standards or other third-party resources.

Links are provided for information or convenience. They do not necessarily indicate that Runtime Labs endorses, controls or continually reviews the external resource.

Third parties are responsible for their own:

  • content;
  • availability;
  • security;
  • products and services;
  • licences;
  • terms; and
  • privacy practices.

You should review the applicable terms and privacy information before using a third-party service.

12

Website security

We use proportionate measures intended to protect the website, including HTTPS, Cloudflare security services and an encrypted Cloudflare Tunnel to the self-hosted origin.

However, no website or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure or free from defects.

You are responsible for protecting your own devices, software, accounts and data. You should use appropriate security software, updates and backups.

If you believe you have found a vulnerability affecting runtime-labs.org, do not exploit it, access other people’s information, disrupt the service or publicly disclose technical details before we have had a reasonable opportunity to investigate.

Please report suspected vulnerabilities to marcus@runtime-labs.org with the subject “Security report”. Reporting does not authorise further testing.

13

Email and confidential information

Ordinary internet email may not be end-to-end encrypted, particularly when messages are exchanged with external email providers.

Do not send passwords, private keys, live authentication tokens, highly sensitive personal information or confidential client data by ordinary email unless an appropriate secure method has been agreed.

Sending unsolicited confidential information does not automatically create a duty of confidentiality, professional relationship or obligation to act. Any confidentiality obligations must be expressly agreed or otherwise arise under applicable law.

14

Privacy

Personal information is handled as described in the Runtime Labs Website Privacy Notice published on runtime-labs.org.

The website does not use visitor information for advertising or behavioural profiling. Cloudflare necessarily processes limited request information to deliver and protect the website.

15

Website availability and changes

We may update, correct, restrict, suspend or withdraw parts of the website for maintenance, security, operational or legal reasons.

Where reasonably possible, important changes will be made without unnecessarily disrupting access. However, we do not guarantee that the website or any particular content will always remain available.

We may block or restrict access where reasonably necessary to protect the website, investigate misuse, comply with law or protect another person’s rights.

16

Our responsibility to consumers

Nothing in these terms affects rights that a consumer cannot lawfully waive.

If you use the website as a consumer, we are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill.

We are not responsible for loss that:

  • was not foreseeable;
  • was caused by your unlawful or unauthorised conduct;
  • arose because you ignored a clear warning or failed to take reasonable precautions;
  • resulted from a third-party website or service outside our control; or
  • is a business loss arising from use of the website for commercial purposes.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for:

  • death or personal injury caused by negligence;
  • fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or
  • any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

17

Our responsibility to business users

If you use the website for business or professional purposes, its free public content is provided on an “as available” basis.

To the extent permitted by law, Runtime Labs excludes implied warranties or conditions applying to the website where it is reasonable to do so.

Runtime Labs will not be liable to a business user for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of:

  • profit;
  • revenue;
  • sales;
  • anticipated savings;
  • business opportunity;
  • goodwill;
  • reputation;
  • data; or
  • business continuity,

arising solely from use of, inability to use, or reliance upon the free public website or third-party resources linked from it.

This section does not apply to paid services. Liability relating to paid work will be governed by the applicable quotation, statement of work, service agreement or other client terms.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

18

Breach of these terms

If you breach these terms, we may take proportionate action, including:

  • restricting or blocking access;
  • preserving relevant evidence;
  • asking you to stop the activity;
  • notifying an affected service provider or system owner;
  • reporting suspected criminal activity to the appropriate authorities; or
  • pursuing available legal remedies.

We will disclose personal information only where permitted or required by law and in accordance with our Privacy Notice.

19

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect changes to the website, the business or applicable law.

Changes apply from the date the revised terms are published. They will not retrospectively alter a separate contract already agreed for paid services.

The “Last updated” date at the beginning identifies the current version.

20

Future incorporation

If Runtime Labs becomes a limited company, these terms will be updated to identify the incorporated legal entity, its company number, registered office and jurisdiction of registration.

Incorporation will not automatically transfer an existing client contract from Marcus F Tipler to the new company. Any required transfer of an existing service agreement will be addressed separately with the affected client.

21

General provisions

If a court finds part of these terms unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent possible.

A delay in enforcing these terms does not waive the right to enforce them later.

These terms do not give enforcement rights to anyone other than you and Runtime Labs, except where applicable law provides otherwise.

22

Governing law and courts

If you are a consumer living in the United Kingdom, the laws and courts applicable in the part of the United Kingdom where you live will apply. You retain any mandatory rights available under the law of your country of residence.

If you use the website for business purposes, these terms and any non-contractual dispute concerning the website are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction.

For users elsewhere, these terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory local law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
